Family Daycare Success Stories
I run a childcare business in Old Greenbelt and am mom to one little girl (age 3.5). We live very close to the library & community center so we have the lake, lots of playgrounds, children's classes, the 2 preschools, the pool and all the school bus stops at our disposal. We enjoy living in our walkable community, and rely on our feet and metro entirely at this point (ie I'm not seeking any positions outside of the neighborhood or that require transporting to schools or classes outside of town). I currently have some openings, if you are seeking childcare.
After my daughter was born, I trained and was certified as a breastfeeding peer counselor and have a very natural approach to childcare, discipline and nutrition. I am a member of Attachment Parenting International and La Leche League. I taught the preschool
and elementary dance, Gymborama and occasional art programs here through the Rec. Program.
Family Daycare, States and localities
Oklahoma best, Kansas worst in family child daycare homes
"Kansas was one of 15 states to receive a zero score for its standards and oversight of family daycare homes in a study released Tuesday by the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies."
"The state scored low primarily because it does not inspect all providers before allowing them to care for children."
"Oklahoma received the highest marks for conducting unannounced visits, responding to a complaint with an unannounced visit, requiring a license for one or more nonfamily members in care, and requiring learning activities and toys."
"Rankings are based on a 140-point system of standards, with each standard worth 10 points."
"Oklahoma received 105 points; the average state score was 59."
